Camp 3 is by far the most dangerous camp of the entire climb. The camp is pitched on narrow ice ledges on the steep Lhotse Face. Camp 3 is exposed, very exposed. There is no protection from the weather and the gradient makes avalanches a real danger. Many Sherpas are reluctant to stay at this camp and instead prefer to push onto the South Col and Camp 4. However, most climbers are struggling with the altitude at this point and despite the inherent dangers are grateful for the rest.
